MART Studios – 2027 Open Call & Studio Waiting List

MART provides professional studio space for practising visual artists and is committed to developing MART Studios at the Old Fire Station, Rathmines and MART Studios Grainstore, Dún Laoghaire as active centres for contemporary visual arts practice in Ireland.
The studios are supported by Arts Council Ireland.
Grainstore Studios, Dún Laoghaire – Ongoing Call
Artists can use this form to register their interest in joining the MART Grainstore Studios. When a studio becomes available, artists on the waiting list will be contacted with details of the space and invited to express their interest through an open studio opportunity.
Old Fire Station, Rathmines – 2027 Open Call
Applications are now open for a new selection of visual artists to join the MART Studios at the Old Fire Station in Rathmines from 1 January 2027.
What is on offer?
Successful applicants may be offered studio memberships of 2–4 years..
Indicative 2027 monthly studio fees are:
- Mid-size studio – €300 per month
- Large studio – €400 per month

Who are we looking for?
MART Studios are for visual artists who are actively developing and producing work, need regular workspace and intend to make consistent use of their studio.
We welcome applications from professional established and emerging artists working across contemporary visual arts disciplines, including painting, sculpture, installation, print, digital and moving image, performance and socially engaged practice. {The form explains this in more detail below}
We are particularly interested in artists who:
- maintain an active and committed visual arts practice;
- are at different stages of their careers.
- can demonstrate ongoing artistic development and professional activity;
- need regular workspace to develop and produce new work;
- intend to use their studio regularly;
- will respect and contribute positively to a shared working environment;
Applications will be considered on the overall strength, activity and development of the artist’s practice, rather than on any single measure such as qualifications, funding history or number of exhibitions.
Studio Sharing: Studios may be shared by up to two artists. If you would like to share a studio, you are welcome to apply with another artist or collaborator and indicate this in your application. Please note that MART will not match applicants for studio sharing; applicants wishing to share should identify their proposed studio partner when applying.
Selection Process
The initial Old Fire Station Open Call will remain open until 16th October 2026.
Applications received by the deadline will be assessed by a professional selection panel of MART Team, Board Members and Company Members. The panel will consider the quality and development of the artist’s practice, evidence of active engagement with their work, suitability for the studios and their potential contribution to an active studio community.
A shortlist of applicants will be invited to view the available studios in late October 2026.
Applicants who are not initially offered a studio may remain on the MART Studio Waiting List. If a studio later becomes available because a member leaves or additional space is created, MART may return to the waiting list and consider suitable applicants for that particular space.
Specific Studio allocation will be assigned during the shortlist process.
Artists may continue to join the waiting list after the initial Open Call closes.

As Arts Council funding is awarded annually, MART can only guarantee exact studio fees one year at a time. We will aim to keep any annual increases to a minimum. If funding does not increase in line with operating costs, artists should normally anticipate a small annual fee increase to reflect inflation and other costs. Where adequate funding allows, MART will seek to avoid or minimise increases.
Studio fees for the following year will normally be confirmed in the preceding autumn.
Please note being on the waiting list does not guarantee that a studio will be offered.
All successful applicants will be required to sign a Studio Membership Agreement before joining, setting out the full terms of membership, studio fee, duration and conditions of use.
