INSTALLATION WORK
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work aims to explore and reference many concepts and ideas but it is mostly underpinned by ideas of conflict and confrontation. My work can deal with simple material conflicts but also engage with more sinister and more psychological conflicts of the mind and pysche.
Often in my practcie I utilise everyday objetcts with a simple domestic use and elivate their status into artwork by creating large sets of multiples or by transforming their original context via a casting process. More recently the incorpoartaion of digital film and sound has given my sculptural intallation works a greater dimension both visually and psychologically.
Influences on my recent practice have ranged from the novels of JG Ballard to the short stories of Charles Bukowski and by the constant undepining and referenceing to Freud’s essay on the ‘Uncanny’. Humour is also a central concern to my practice as is deriving the appropriate visual means to articulate any given idea. I do not feel bound to any particular tradition or format and my work is now based on a proposal or interventionist basis and most recently my practice has expanded into the public arena via large scale commissioned works that engage and utilise public interaction and relfection..
