Low in the Dark
August 3, 2016 @ 7:30 pm - August 6, 2016 @ 9:00 pm€16
Founded by the creators of the well-received debut play Removed, Lorna Costello and Robert Downes, in its first year Squad conquered Smock Allies: Scene + Heard festival 2016 with the new and refreshing plays Gulp and Devil’s Door.
SQUAD now brings you a new take on Low in the Dark, one of the very first plays written by the extraordinary Marina Carr. First performed in 1989, this piece is returning to Dublin a generation later in the raw atmosphere of Rathmines’ hidden gem: the MART Gallery.
Low in the Dark explores the lives of five wacky characters who are determined to understand and recreate the meaning of love. Gender roles are displaced and craziness ensues as Curtains, Bender, Baxter and Bone attempt to love one another. Rhythmic, fast-paced and completely bizarre, this play will transport you to an absurd reality grounded by Curtains’ story of the “Man” and the “Woman” who walk the earth.
With its all female production team we strive for a fairer theatre environment. The play is a rejection of common stereotypes attached to men and women and ultimately invites us to let go of gender definitions by allowing us to see one another as people.
LOW IN THE DARK by Marina Carr will be on from the 3rd to the 6th of August 2016 at 7.30 pm with a matinee at 2 pm on the 6th of August as well as the evening shows. Save the date!
