Born 1980. Photographer and Filmmaker based in Dublin, Ireland.
Ordinary, everyday moments; placelessness and the magic of mundane – these ideas serve as a jumping off point for my work.
All my landscapes have as their defining feature an aesthetic of lines, boundaries and borders; the line between the sea and the land, fields and forests, walls of rooms and spaces. Also in this is the existence of the line between identity of place, fact and fiction; the surrealistic and theatre of place.
I shoot anonymous places – sea fronts, forests, places passed by momentarily on the train. Along with the aesthetic of lines and boundaries, this offers up a vision of the ‘place’ being stage like, a theatre where everything exists both for a finite amount of time as well as being trapped forever within the imagination.
The lines also serve as the possibility of what lies beyond – over the wall, across and beyond the field, past the horizon. It is not about being trapped within the confines of the space, but what lies within and what could lie outside; the fact and fiction of the ‘stage’ and the limitlessness of imagination. Hope, expectation and possibility.
