MART is an artist-led, not for profit arts organisation founded in 2007 by Matthew Nevin & Ciara Scanlan. With the help of a skilled team, our mission is to provide art studios and promote contemporary art through an engaging curatorial programme.
2016 was our busiest yet, with 15 Exhibitions, 10,000+ visitors to our Dublin Gallery, 24 Live Events, and grew to host 127 studio members in 7 buildings!
We were delighted to welcome the renowned Japanese artist Tomoko Sawada to Dublin for a solo exhibition thanks to The JEC fund. For the first time, with the help of The Arts Council Ireland, we are curating a year long programme of artists.
We signed on eight wonderful Artists to be represented by The MART Gallery in a first for our organisation: James L Hayes, Adam Gibney, Aoibheann Greenan, Sofie Loscher, Katherine Nolan, Helen MacMahon, Steven Maybury and Terence Erraught.
We return to RUA RED to curate /Glitch Festival 2017 with the most ambitious series of events, workshops, performances and exhibitions yet. We continue to build relationships with the Embassy of France, Goethe-Institut and Fire Station Artists’ Studios to bring exciting local and international artists to our galleries.
We have grown to be one of the largest supplier of independent, affordable space for the arts, cultural and creative community in Dublin city. We now support over 120 members in seven studio buildings across Dublin.
We have just launched our eighth studio building in Portobello Harbour which will broaden our network and allow a wide range of facilities and opportunities to our community. This creative hub, led by MART, will have an active collaborative approach, providing a supportive platform and opportunity as a means of showcasing and promoting cultural cooperation.
Applications for membership are open now! Deadline for applications is Friday 3 March at 6pm.
Our 2017 Studio Member programme will see MART host Studio Crits, Exhibition Openings, Open Studios and more, to continue to build a closer family between our artists, designers and creatives.
With thanks to Culture Ireland, for the third year of the Activating Pangea series we are heading back to Los Angeles to Santa Monica Art Studios gallery Arena 1, to showcase “Destroy These Walls” an exhibition which will showcase artwork seen in our 2017 gallery programme.
Continuing our exploration of Contemporary Art fairs we are aiming to head back to California to The San Diego Art Fair in November!
Local Engagement & Partnerships:
We continue to work with Gateway Mental Health Association with private artist talks. We have begun talks with Dublin City Council’s South East Area Community Development section to see how MART can assist and further engage with our local community.
Over the past 3 years we have continued to work with our local TÚS programme providing back to work opportunities to the long term unemployed. We have set up a range of partnerships with UCD Dublin where our programmed artists connect with professionals working in Architecture, Design, Science and Technology to explore possible inter-practice relationships.
We continue to work with the British Council in connecting with our European piers in the European Creative Hub Network, heading to Sheffield later this year for the next forum. We have also begun a Studio Exchange with our friends and Santa Monica Art Studios to allow our members and theirs to exchange ‘lives’ for 1-3 months a year!
We launched our first Membership Scheme which allows YOU to become a cultural stakeholder in MART! Your support will see us continue much-needed renovation works in the Fire Station, continue our art programme and ensures the sustainability of our studio network.
